In the beginning...

When did it become required, no, when did it become acceptable for college students to live solely on Top Ramen, coffee, and frozen burritos? I can kind of almost sort of see the glamour of living this way. It fulfills the “starving artist” dream without the cost of moving to Paris, learning French, and actually starving.  Instead we, the college students, are staying in America and instead of fresh bread and cheese we settle for frozen processed… stuff; I can’t even call it food.

Maybe I’m being a little harsh with my generalization. A good portion of college students has meal plans and plenty have roommates who cook, besides there are always delicious unique restaurants out there. So why stage a war against ramen? Ramen is fine; it is cheap and fulfills the title of sustenance to produce energy in the human body… There’s just, so much more out there.

Baking and cooking are my butter and jam in life (reading is my bread but we’ll get into that later). I can honestly say I have not had a frozen or processed meal in two years. Insert caveat here: I do use frozen and processed ingredients in the meals I cook. Sometimes I’m just too tired to make marinara sauce from scratch, and I don’t have a chicken coop out back for whenever I cook chicken. That being said, I do try my best to create homemade meals from scratch.

I enjoy a challenge and when it comes to baking, the harder the better. I live for the thrill of conquering a difficult recipe! What I bake and cook will not necessarily be at the skill level for a beginning level chef, but for an aspiring chef these will help you grow and learn. I did. If you fail one recipe don't be scared of trying it again, it's the only way to learn and someday you'll be able to see a recipe start to fail, and you will be able to save it from disaster. I will try to make things clear and am always happy to answer questions. Good luck!
